Woolgro roll out mats combine the natural nutrients found in unscoured dag wool with the moisture retention properties of natural recycled waste jute fiber. The dag wool contains organic nutrients in the correct balance to feed grass as it grows. The Woolgro lawn mat has a layer of paper mulch to retain moisture protected by a layer of recycled paper. You simply roll out the pre seeded mat over your prepared ground, cover with a fine layer of lawn mix and then irrigate. The result is a quick, even germination and a healthy thick lawn growing strongly. Woolgro lawn mats come in rolls of 15 square meters, 1.5m wide x 10m long with two different grass seed varieties available through CLGS:

Lawn Varieties

1. Premium Fine - A blend of Rye, creeping & fine fescue; a fine bladed general use lawn, tolerance to close mowing, quick to establish. Suits most climates.

2. Tall Fescue - A drought, heat and wear tolerant species due to large deep root system, rhizomatous so covers bare patches, medium bladed, medium to dark green colour. Tolerates shade and hard wearing. Cut down to 40mm.

Do-it-Yourself

Woolgro mats can be easily laid yourself and are particularly good for smaller areas or those requiring renovation.

We developed Woolgro mats with the user in mind. They come with simple instructions which can be followed even by first-time lawn growers and are easy to install with just a few steps of preparation. The aim is to have a long lasting lawn with the least hassle and one which you can be proud of for years to come. Our lawn mats are available in a roll size of 15 square metres.

How does Woolgro work

Woolgro lawn and vegetable mats combine the natural nutrients found in unscoured dag wool with the moisture retention properties of natural recycled jute and paper fibres.

Unscoured dag wool typically contains a handy range of natural nutrients well balanced to feed grass and vegetables as they grow in the early part of their life. The natural nutrients slowly release into the soil resulting in thick healthy green grass with strong deep roots and delicious looking healthy vegetables. The recycled fibres holds approximately 60% of their own weight as water and this dramatically improves seed germination and reduces the amount of irrigation required. The seed is starting out in a warm environment created by the wool, insulated from the cold earth with natural nutrients and an ability to hold water - what could be a better way to start off plant life?.

The easy way to create the perfect lawn

Woolgro Lawn mats are supplied with the seed ingrained throughout the mat taking the guess work out of how much seed is needed.

Gone are the days of marking out equal areas, weighing seed and trying to spread evenly. No more over seeding resulting in a choked lawn that will unevenly thin out after germination, or under seeding giving sparse, patchy grass growth with weeds filling in the gaps. Quick and easy to lay, cut the mat to any shape and no hassle carrying heavy and large products to hard to reach places. The seed stays where you want it - it can't be washed away by rain, blown away by wind or eaten by birds.

Weed Suppressant

The Woolgro mats act as a weed suppressant in a similar way to a conventional weed mat. Once the lawn is established weeds struggle to grow in a thick lush healthy lawn.

During installation, the Woolgro mat is covered by a thin layer (1-2cm) of weed free sand/soil mix and that's the last you see of the mat - as the roots grow the mat is locked to the ground then slowly feeds the plants as it biodegrades.

100% Biodegradable

Woolgro mats are made from 100% natural fibre so as the grass and or vegetables grow the mat biodegrades, slowly feeding the plants with important nutrients. After approximately 9-12 months (depending on site conditions) the natural mat will be totally absorbed into the soil.

Woolgro mats can be laid and successfully grown any time during the year in most areas as the wool insulates the germinating seed from the cold earth in winter months.

Installation and After Care Process

Woolgro lawn mats can be easily laid as a very easy do-it-yourself project if you are that way inclined. Alternatively contact your local Central Landscape yard and we can recommend a professional to lay your lawn ensuring a great lawn every time.

Once the ground has been prepared (either by you or us) roll out the Woolgro lawn mat - paper side down and cover with a thin layer of weed free soil/sand mix. Then all that is needed is a good initial soaking followed by a water twice a day, so the mat does not dry out, for 2-3 weeks until the grass is well established. First growth usually appears after 5-8 days depending on conditions and seed type sown.

When the grass is approximately 8cm, cut back to 5cm using a mower with blades set to highest level. Gradually lower the level to a point that is appropriate for your lawn type (e.g. tall fescue 4-5cm, rye-grass 3-4cm) over the next 6 weeks until the lawn is thick and well established.
